Long story short, I ended up being allergic to something, *shock*, and had contact dermatitis on/around my lips. It's since healed, but scarred something dreadful. Any suggestions for a decent scar lightener or spot treatment? The scars are such that I'm not comfortable going out with out make up on, so I would like to start using something asap! Thanks for the help loves!

YThe only thing that had lightened my acne scars was ptr UN wrinkle peel pads, and it takes a couple weeks to show a difference. I didn't see much difference with clinique or Dr brandt dark spot corrector, but you could try those...they work for others...I have a deluxe sample of clinique I could send you. I stocked up, then realized it didn't work for me Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Are you allergic to anything in the Murad rapid age spot and pigment lightening serum? It lightened my burn scar noticeably in only a few days and now you can't even tell anything was there.

As promised, I have some photos to show you ladies my results with Murad's pigment lightening serum! I've only been using it for three days and I'm already loving the results!
This photo was taken last week:
And this was taken today when I woke up:
The spot on my left cheek is almost completely gone!

Do you know what you're allergic or sensitive to? Considering the issue site was described as being around/on your lip area, you want to be careful about what you use to start with.
Generally a more delicate and less sensitizing approach to lightening and fading discoloration (whether it's scarring, post acne marks, age spots, sun spots, or hyperpigmentation) is going to be with vitamin C, resveratrol, and botanical extracts such as licorice, goji berry, passion fruit/maracuja, and pomegranate (anti-oxidant rich fruits). Vitamin C, resveratrol (derived from grapes), and fruit sources that are anti-oxidant rich help to not only brighten skin, but protect against free radical damage which can attack cells and damage/cause further damage to sites by breaking down collagen and elastin which in turn can also lead to the darkening of pigment. Brands with serums and treatments to check into would be Ole Henriksen (Truth line), First Aid Beauty (Radiance Serum/pads, Peter Thomas Roth (Camu Camu line), and Caudalie.
More potent approaches would be with alpha hydroxy acids which can be simplified into the ever popular glycolic acid (deerived from sugar enzymes of plants or fruits such as papaya, sugarcane, or pumpkin) and citric acids (mandelic/apple, orange, lemon, and grapefruit) which also tend to be high in vitamin C sources. AHAs work by increasing the rate of exfoliation in skin, allowing damaged/targeted sites (i.e. damaged tissue/scarring or discoloration) to essentially fade quicker due to the fact these areas are forced to surface and thus be removed quicker. In addition to increasing the exfoliation rate, AHAs also promote healthier cellular regeneration so it allows for a balance where they not only remove cells, but also help to ensure new cells produced are in better condition to replace what is missing.
Even more potent means to fade and treat scar sites or discoloration would be hydroquinone or retinol. Hydroquinone is a fading agent that also inhibits melanin production for that specific area, so while you're treating and fading a scar site, you're also ensuring that site isn't going to keep producing that damaged/darkened pigment. Retinol can help strengthen the skin, thus allowing for improved and increase skin health but it also increases the exfoliation rate at a much stronger level than using AHAs. Alpha arbutin/arbutin is an ingredient that functions similiar to hydroquinone but has been found to be less sensitizing (found in Kate Somerville's Complexion Correction Daily/Night Perfectors). Hydroquinone can be found in Murad's Post Acne Gel and Age Spot Lightening serums as well as Kate Somerville's Complexion Correction Spot Reducing Concentrate and retinol can be found in various treatments from Peter Thomas Roth (Retinol Fusion), Dr. Dennis Gross, and Philosophy (Help Me and Miracle Worker line).
A key thing to remember is to ensure proper sun protection whether you're using a more gentle or potent ingredient to target the discoloration on the scar site. Chemical based exfoliants (like the AHAs) and more potent ingredients can make skin a bit more sensitized to UV rays as the rapid level of exfoliation can leave newer skin layers more vulnerable, but regardless, sun safety is important to practice even if you're using vitamin C or more gentle brightening sources.

I've just recently started using Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Treatment on my acne scars and I saw an improvement in just a few days. I apply two-three drops in the morning and night to my cheeks where the scars are. I let it sink in for a few minutes and put my regular moisturizer on top. I'm really happy with the product so far!
