I went to lunch with my mother today, who wears makeup but certainly doesn't have my obsession with it. I asked her what color lipstick she had, she didn't even know the brand and said it was so old it probably wore off. It didn't, it was Revlon and I think it was Satin Plum. It is like a light plum. She said she doesn't really like makeup shopping and I said "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!?" I told her I would go with her anytime. She liked the idea, she also mentioned whatever she uses turns orange on her. I'm assuming she meant lipsticks but maybe not. Anyway, she is really, really hard to buy for, if I could find some makeup ideas for her it would be really cool. My own coloring, if I don't get something with a lot of brown or brownish purple, it can shift reddish on me. And I prefer more natural looks myself. How can I stalk my mother LOL to find out what sorts of things I could get her? And any ideas based on her choice of color in the Revlon line?

What about giving her some deluxe samples to see what she likes? So many GWP going on right now. I liked the Clinque one for the first time in a long while ... eye shadows, lipstick, cc cream. The Lancôme one looks really nice too.

Yeah, give her a little box of deluxe samples. Great idea tayvm! Least this way you aren't spending a ton of money on products she just might like or use! Maybe for mother's day a cute little basket full of deluxe samples with a gc and she can write down the ones she really likes and after she went through a few she can do get the full size. I posted something like this over on BT, I did that for the teachers at my son's preschool but only used perfume samples they loved it!!

I'd start with blush and eye shadow because it could be a bit more universal. I'm sure she'd like some matte colors and a nice springy blush.

My mom likes makeup but it has always been a struggle for her to find the right colors and shades for foundation, concealer etc.
I would give her my samples and deluxe samples and she loved it. You might not have one coming in your area, but I took my mom to the beauty trend event and told her I would buy her whatever she wanted and she had a good time. We got goodie bags and I bought her some stuff from Lancome and got her the gift with purchase too. Usually she hates shopping but she had a really good time and got to explore brands and items she would never think to try on her own.
I think a nice little goodie bag is always a nice gift and if it is an assortment of items, there is a lot more to experiment with. And if you aren't sure on certain colors, I try and go with stuff that pampers like nice hand creams.
I was just talking about makeup and stuff I wanted to try and my mom told me some of the stuff she was interested in. Made things easy for me when it came to birthday presents for her.

Like.....give her MY deluxe samples?? LOL! Well, maybe. I could put together a little kit for her. LOL! No ... I meant maybe choose an item to purchase that comes with a GWP. Like a nice face powder, or something she would use, and then she would get some goodies with it. Or buy something for yourself and give her the extras. I'm sure you don't have any deluxe samples laying around

Or ... I know that SDM has the odd Ladies Night (my local one had one this past Friday). I want to say it was Lise Watier sponsoring the evening. I've never been to one, but I have a friend go to one recently and they do a little demo, makeovers and you go home with a goodie bag. Might be a nice night out And I know the one in London (with a Beauty Boutique) recently had an Urban Decay night. Maybe go in and talk to the gals and see when they have one coming up?

You could give her a makeover and see what she complains about or requests. If you don't want to you could take her to a counter and listen to her responses...

Syd, honey the easiest way is to put together a kit from YOUR (yes yours, as hard as it is to part with them-trust me, I know) samples. Pick things that look like something she would wear, and make up a cute little bag. Lord knows you probably have as many brand new, pretty makeup bags as I do! Eyes/lips/blush/highlighters, etc may be the easiest. (You may vaguely know her skin type/concerns and could add a few deluxe skin goodies, and maybe a hand cream/lotion sample or two.) She will love it, and you can gain feedback for things she likes for the future. This is my only hope for unhelpful female giftees. I have to do this with my mother in law all of the time. She loves it, and gives me feedback on her favorites (after I ask for it.) good luck! I'm still struggling with my mom, myself!

Thank you all so much for the advice! I will see if I can put together a little goodie bag for her. And then maybe go shopping with her sometime after next Sunday.
