Okay, so this might be a little gross, but I'm hoping for a little guidance. The other day I was wearing my Benefit They're Real mascara, and I think when I removed it, not all of it came off (it is notorious for doing this with me). When I woke up the next day and washed my face, I saw the inner corner of my left eye was red and a little swollen. There wasn't a head anywhere or anything, and I applied a hot compress to it and by the next day it had gone down considerably. Today makes for the third day since it showed up, and it's not red or swollen anymore at all, but the skin where the swelling was feels a little tender and looks almost scaly. (ew, sorry) I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else before? Does that dry feeling skin go away fast if so? Is there anything I can do to promote healing? I haven't worn any makeup since it happened. However, I have a wedding to go to tomorrow, and bare faced is not my best look these days, so I'm hoping it's gone away enough that using makeup will be safe. Thanks!

Yous ure you aren't allergic to it? Sometimes allergies will only come out when there is irritation, and it sounds like having it all on all night might have been irritating. It sounds like it's healing now and you have to wait that out. I may lay off eye makeup until it feels 100% better.

Hm, I've never had problems with it before, but I've developed sudden allergies to other products in my eye area, so that could be it.

Yep, all is good now. I just put hot compresses on it for 15 minutes every few hours and it was all gone by Saturday morning. I tossed the mascara and I'll just be using a different kind from now on and hopefully it won't happen again.

Sorry for the late reply, Brenna, but that description seemed to be a sty (stye). It's caused by a blocked oil gland. Glad that it went away. However, it can reoccur so here's some info.
Fortunately, application of warm compresses is exactly the right thing to do! The other step that my doctor recommended was to make a solution of Johnson's No More Tears baby shampoo and warm water. Dip a clean Q-tip into this solution and gently wipe along the lash line and tear duct to help clear the blockage. Do this 2-3 times a day, using fresh solution and a new Q-tip each time. Apply a warm compress afterward.

Hey comfy, thanks for the info! If that happens again, I'll be sure to follow your advice. I had thought it might have been a stye, but when I looked at pictures of them (very gross, by the way, I don't' recommend it), mine didn't look quite like the ones I saw. But I followed the recommendations for stye care with the compress and keeping it clean and not having any product there, and it went away, so I have to agree that I believe that's what it was. Hopefully I don't get another one!!
