What is your fav, hate or the one that got away?
I loved the Ellis Faas bottled foundation but it was the wrong shade. I have what I think should be the correct shade on its way to me. I'm also liking the new Chanel Velvet but there's no way I'll be able to wear that in the dry winter and sometimes if I put to much on I get a strange finish/drag to it so it is not my HG.
The one that got away? Ages ago Mac had a shade that was perfectly me and you know what's coming next... They discontinued it!

kitty, have you tried the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua? It's supposedly the hydrating twin sister to the velvet formula. I've only tried Vitalumiere Aqua and I really like it!

I've spent a lot of time on my hunt for my Holy Grail foundation... and I'm still searching. I've found a lot of fabulous options, but I've always had something just a bit off.
My honorable mentions that may be a HG product for someone who isn't me would be:
- Diorskin Nude - Great light-medium coverage. Unfortunately, I couldn't handle the scent
- Guerlain's LdP - Superb application. Great luminous/dewy finish. But again, couldn't deal with the scent.
- Ellis Faas - Looks great and feels great on. No shade match for me.
The two foundations that are the closest to HG status for me:
- YSL Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation - Flawless coverage. Masks any redness in my face.
- UD's Naked Skin - Feels weightless and looks very natural. And again, covers all redness in my face.

I got MAC Pro Longwear in NC15 last month and it is the best foundation I've ever had. It matches my skin exactly, has wonderful coverage that I can build up without looking cakey, only takes a small amount, doesn't oxidize, feels light on my skin, never breaks me out and is inexpensive. I want to try other MAC foundation so badly now!

kitty, which shade of ellis faas did you get that doesn't work and what is your shade in other foundations? The one that didn't work was 102. It was too dark and pink but I loved the feel and finish. I kept a small amount of the 102 for reference (and to prevent myself from deciding it wasn't so bad.) I can take pics if you want. Today 101 is coming. I'm a 10 in Chanel and I saw a swatch on the internet with 101 and Bobbi Brown porcelain and they looked really similar so I went and looked at that since it's easy to find that brand. I'm usually towards the bottom end of the choices and I mistakenly bought 102 because I didn't realize that sephora didn't sell the lowest number 100 and I thought 102 was the second shade not the third.

I am still looking for my HG foundation. I have Hourglass and Buxon but I'm not overly impressed. I don't need much coverage just need to even out my color. I decided to try a CC cream and believe it or not I'm really impressed with Sephora CC cream and it's all I need to use.

I also really like UD Naked Skin...one of the only foundations I've ever repurchased!

Ghkim, EF sent me the first 4 or 5 colors - none of them really matched me. All a bit too pinky/ :/

OK… so I have a few favorites.
For the Matte look my 2 favs are Hourglass Immaculate and MUFE Mat Velvet
Ellis Faas is by far the best "looks like your skin" foundation…totally natural appearing. Wonderful. Amazing. I'm in LOVE
Recently, I've been into the "dewy" look. I did love the YSL touche eclate illuminating foundation but didn't have a good shade match. I just bought Guerlain Parure de Lumiere. WOW. I literally have worn it only one day, but it instantly makes my face look so much better.
I have pics comparing Ellis Faas and the Guerlain if anyone is interested
Also…just bought a new BB cream. The Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm Multi Benefit Skin Care Makeup in Vanilla Glow. love it so far.

I had been dabbling in BB creams for a while before finding my HG foundation: Giorgio Armani “Maestro” Fusion Foundation. This is a "dry oil" type foundation--not sure I totally understand it, but I like how it looks on my sensitive combo skin. It has light to medium coverage (some may think it's somewhat sheer), but no separation like what I've experienced with water-based sheer foundations. It doesn't make my oily nose get oily either.
I do make sure to exfoliate before using because it will tend to pill or flake a bit wherever there's a particularly dry spot on the skin.
This is foundation that people either love or hate. Some people think it doesn't cover enough. (There's another Armani foundation that is better if more coverage is needed.) Some people can't wear it because their skin is too dry. But I love it. Full disclosure though: I don't wear foundation much, even this HG one. I'm finding that my skin looks okay without using it much. I've always disliked heavier foundations, so the fact I've stuck with this one (and it performs well on my skin when I do wear it) is a first for me.

I'm always looking for the Holy Grail of Foundations. It's hard to find one with the right coverage (enough but not too much), color (it's hard to match me with the rosacea and freckles) and look (looks less like flat paint/powder and more like real skin.). Many of the ones I've encountered fall short in one or more areas.
I guess the closest that I've come to a HG foundation is Smashbox's Studio Skin. It's one of the two that I have repurchased (the other one and HG runner-up is Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12 Hour). I usually wear 2.1 in Studio Skin but the summer sun is already upon me in CA, and even with my best efforts to bathe in sunblock, the 2.1 is looking a bit light. But on the website, 2.2 looks like quite the jump up. I may pop over to Sephora to get a 2.2 sample and try that out, then if the shade works I'll order it at Smashbox's next sale.

I love Armani Maestro Foundation - seriously makes my skin look flawless. The only problem is that it is quite finicky about skin type. Just like with my Cle de Peau concealer it will look awful if your skin a little dry.

Last summer, the Hourglass Immaculate was my favorite. I thought I'd never find anything else I liked as well. Come fall, it was a little too drying so I put it away and tried a few others (MUFE Liquid Lift, Estee Lauder Double Wear). I'm not sure if I just didn't have the right shade, or what, but they didn't do much for me. Tried the Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Fluid ... ohmigawd. Lovelovelove. I use the Meteorite Primer (pink) as well and the combo is heaven. I pulled out the Hourglass again the other day and was not impressed. I guess I'm a Guerlain Girl now

My HG is Dolce&Gabbana Perfect Luminous Foundation in Classic 60. It's a natural skin look but a fuller coverage. Lately, though, I've been reaching for the Ellis Faas Skin Veil S101 more and more. It's more medium coverage, but with the right brush, I am liking how it looks. It's more natural than the D&G. Both are excellent, though.
