I'm a fairly new lipstick person and I'm finally ready to take the plunge and get a power red one. I'm looking for something with blue undertones but I'm open as far as finish (shiny, matte) and brand. What do you suggest?

bite has great lipsticks, mac has a huge range of shades, giorgio armani has a great matte liquid formulation, and i also really like the mufe aqua rouge for a long lasting nontransferrable lip lacquer type of formulation. if you want to splurge, there's always ysl, chanel and tom ford. oh and occ has some really nice reds too. where's beethousand? she is the queen of reds.

Try Hourglass Icon. It is the perfect blue-red and was my step into wearing red lipstick again. I have the gloss and opaque rouge liquid lipstick.

I liked the hourglass, I know it's enabling a Sephora purchase, but the Marc Jacobs Showstopper Gel lipstick is really nice. It does need to be re applied throughout the day but it is perfect. I do not regret buying that one. The other one sadly is the ROUGE exclusive from Bite. I found the hourglass to be a bit drying on me but it does have staying power.

MAC in Russian Red is one of my favorite blue-reds. It's a little deeper too, so it's not so shocking. I think it seriously glams up any look, lasts forever without reapplying and has an awesome formula. Not too drying, doesn't bleed like some reds do.

I also recommend MAC russian red. Another one I like is the Nars lipstick pencil in dragon girl. It is not as drying as the russian red!

I really love Make Up For Ever's Moulin Rouge for a satin finish and Smashbox's Infrared Matte and MAC's Riri Woo for mattes.

I second hourglass icon! And bite's reds are so lovely, too. Some of my longest wearing reds are my nars matte lipsticks, but I think hourlgass icon has amazing staying power, too.

MAC Riri Woo is my go to, but it was limited edition. But Ruby Woo is supposed to be it's sister color.
