My rant for the day: My husband just got a new awesome engineering job. Which is super fantastic. But we found out this might mean I'll have to switch health care providers at 38 weeks pregnant. SO not happy. Trying to find alternatives (none of which are particularly good so far). I'm also grumpy because I just did the first glucose test, got a fun blood draw, and get to go fight the DMV on paperwork they processed incorrectly. Deep breaths... You could do COBRA for a period of time. will his new benefits be effective day 1?

I'm starting to be annoyed with the job hunt! I don't have experience for a director role and those are what seem to be open. Daddy wants me... no more so grandma wants me to stay in the Bay Area. I want to go move to Australia and live there, but they think it's a phase. ITS NOT when I have thought about it and even with the expensive rent. I'm not going to be in my 20s, I'm not going to be single forever, at least I don't think and I'd like to get away from here for a while. And yes, I just got back from Sydney, but that's not my point! did you just graduate college? What are you looking to do? Graduated college and looking for an international business or marketing gig.

He's eligible mid-October, which is also after the open enrollment for 2015. Right now it looks like my best bet is to pay an extra $800/quarter to have student health insurance with the same insurance company that I had before, then wait to enroll in his insurance until the open enrollment for 2016. So I'm going to have to go get new referrals and everything + meet a new deductible but will eventually get to stick with the same health care team. Which is what it is, I guess, and is still better than trying to switch from PPO to HMO 2 weeks before I'm due.

Global company preferably, but I'm also ok with start ups. Legit, I'm kinda desperate and I'm applying for an internship for Bloomberg.

In this case, I would get Cobra for the entire period from the last day at his current job until the first day at his new job. It may be cheaper in the short term to buy student insurance, but it will not be as convenient as keeping the same plan. A lot of OBs will not take a patient 38 weeks pregnant, because of the increased risk of not knowing the full history. Malpractice insurance for OBs is almost as high as anesthesiologists. It will also financially hurt your current OB. OBs have global billing meaning they cannot bill anything until after the baby is born. That is why you generally do not see EOBs while you're pregnant. Any provider who does submit a bill will most likely get a bundled denial. If your current provider submits a bill for all of the visits you've had thus far after the baby is born, the current insurance could deny it as bundled. As he would have nothing to do with the delivery, it is possible he could end up with nothing, except the copays or deductibles you've already paid. It is a tough gig for OB billing.

I just want to clarify that the OBs who take patients 38 weeks along are usually the ones you do not want. Also, I meant the last day the current plan is available to you until the first day the new plan is available for you. If your student plan is one your current OB is a provider for, the billing gets a little tricky, but it would be seamless for you. Keeping the same Doctor is the way to go if at all possible.

Thanks for all the tips. Everything I'm reading suggests that no one wants to take on someone that far into pregnancy... and I love our birthing center so it would be heartbreaking to switch to someone less qualified at the very end. I called the practice I'm with this afternoon and they said they have experience with people switching to student insurance through our campus. They even gave me a few recommendations to make the process a little easier - thank goodness. Sounds like I get to keep my doctor, they'll handle the billing fuss, and they offered to handle baby as part of my insurance for the first 30 days (she'll get on the HMO with my husband as a qualifying life event afterwards). Oh, all the fun things we're learning!

Hopefully, everything works out, so you can stay with your current OB. I realized I forgot a congrats for the better job offer for your husband.

Okay random question of the night. Can certain areas of your face be more sensitive than other parts of the face? I've been using some ole products and no matter what I always have a zit on the left of my chin but no where else... Does it happen to anyone else?

I only break out on my chin area but that's because my breakouts are hormonal. Could that be what's happening with you also?

Most of my breakouts are on my chin too. I got them in other places when I was younger, but it is rare now that I get them anywhere else.

American health insurance sounds hella stressful! I don't quite understand what's going on, but having to jump through hoops and deal with change at 38 weeks pregnant sounds like a nightmare. Good luck! Hope everything transitions smoothly!

That Passages Malibu Rehab Center...the guy who started it talks at the end of the commercial and says "I should know I was an addict for 10 years" - I'm pretty sure addiction is a lifelong battle, sooo I'm not buying that he is cured.
I don't know why this commercial bothers me so much, but I get angry every time I hear that!!

They make it seem like some freaking spa vacation or something. All fancy and nice with massages and stuff. Really? So ridiculous.

If I hear or see the statement (any variation) "To have 1st World problems..." I am going to scream!
We all have problems, big and small. Sometimes people just want to commiserate, sometimes that tiny thing can lead to a larger issue that someone might not be ready to open up about but really needs to, when they get the above comment it's just not nice.
If you start your complaint with this statement-Thank you Captain Obvious, I was never going to compare your problem to sickness, death, poverty, or any myriad of very serious problems. I get that you just want to let off steam and have a little conversation-AND THAT IS OK! No need to feel guilty.
And lastly, learn the definition of 1st, 2nd and 3rd World. It has everything to do with the Cold War and NOTHING to do with poverty. 1st World-Aligned with US, Great Britain and their allies, 2nd World aligned with the Soviet Union and their allies, 3rd World-unaligned. Switzerland is considered a 3rd World country.
Thanks!

It doesn't even seem like rehab and thank you zpsid91 for sharing what grinds your gears because that does grind my gears. You can be sober and clean for a number of years, but really it seems rehabs are a new money maker. I'm sure deep down Passages is a scam or a shit town. EDIT: I'm reading the Yelp reviews, 4 stars, but most of them are not from patient experience and a few have complained about relapsing and saying "curing" addiction. Addiction cannot be cured, it can be curbed or if you are going to cure it, there will need to be very good psychologial exercises and experiences, but even shown with Pavlov's dog experiment, the mental conditioning can wear off even after some trauma, but can be easily conditioned back to the original reaction.

Ok can I just rant? I HATE IT when guys on the street, RANDOM guys call me out from their cars or try to converse with me and "shower" me with compliments and follow me. Street harassment sucks man! I am going to change the way I dress now and get rid of any short shorts to a consignment shop, get rid of my padded bras and switch over to Angels Demi bras from VS. Seriously, can't a girl walk the streets IN PEACE? (I would like to say this is me without make-up on and my hair either unwashed the day before or not styled and blowdried from last night) REALLY?!?
