I know this has been discussed a zillion times but I'm always searching for the perfect brushes. Right now a few of my favorites are some Laura Mercier brushes (face) and MAC for eyes. However, I have really been interested in Hakuhodo and Wayne Goss brushes. Would anyone familiar with these lines be willing to share some insight, how they compare/contrast with other brushes? Thanks!

I love the WG #6--I have two of those. I just got into some Hakuhoto ones too.
Hakuhoto is going to eventually have the brush numbers on all of their brushes (in all of their lines, I think) and recently I bought about 4 shadow blending brushes and 3 of them didn't have the number and I didn't have the foresight to somehow identify which is which before I started using them. But I got them because I found that I was short in good blending brushes--I have the MAC one (is it 239 or 217?) and it's scratchy (both of those are, to me) and I have a Chanel blending brush and it's useless so it was between WG and Hakuhoto. (WG has at least a couple blending ones.)
I love the 4 Hakuhoto blending ones I have, but you could probably make do with just a couple (if I could figure out which ones they are). You have to be super careful ordering from Hakuhoto because they only allow returns if the brush is unused, and even then, you pay a restocking fee. But some of their prices are comparable to those that are synthetic brand name from other lines. When I use powder products (except Hourglass), I want natural. (Hourglass for some reason works better with synthetic.)
I also have a couple Hakuhoto white goat hair brushes and they have stained a bit already (which I don't mind that much).
I did look at some blogs about the Hakuhoto because there are so many to choose from.
The WG Holiday brush (which may or may not be reissued even though it was LE) looks interesting because of the dome shape with the point on the end.
Anyway, both WG and Hakuhoto are great quality!
I can't do much compare/contrast. Except the WG #6 has a unique shape--it is great for applying eyeshadow, and then if you turn it, you have a thinner side which is good for working in the crease. I can sometimes get by just using my two WG #6 for laying down shadow, if I'm not getting too crazy with some of my colors.

I was very let down with MAC's 217 blending brush: it's not dense enough to do the job, at least not for darker shadows. For lighter shadows it's adequate. So for blending I use a nice, bushy-bristled Sonia Kashuk one.
I do use MAC's 219 and 237 for my eyes. I'll also use pencil brushes from UD and Japonesque.
The rest of the face...I haven't really gotten that far. I'm using whatever I have around, though I do have a nice foundation brush from Sephora's line.

Syd, the wg and hakuhodo brushes are really nice if you want a natural hair, soft brush. if you are looking for stiffer brushes, you may need to look elsewhere. in terms of comparisons, the 217 is like the hakuhodo 5523 except the 5523 is softer and less expensive. the 217 used to be one my faves, but after using the 5523, i will never need to get another 217. the wg 6 is also a similar shape to the 217 and 5523 but it is the softest and least fluffy out of the 3 (ie, it maintains its shape more, while the other two splay out after washing). with it, i get a softer, more delicate application of color, and it blends softly without scratching or dragging my lid too much. however, it does not blend vigorously, so if you've applied a very pigmented shadow you might need a stronger blender to help. i love the 5523 and the wg6 - those are two of my favorite eye brushes. what kind of brushes were you looking for? hakuhodo has some great face/cheek brushes as well.

I'm dying for some Wayne Goss brushes. However, last year I got into the sigma hype on youtube and bought a whole bunch of those. I like them a lot, but I'm on a no buy for my upcoming trip to Italy so I can't warrant splurging on brushes just yet. Maybe with next year's tax refund

I don't even want to try the higher end brushes. I'm afraid things could go real bad, real fast. Right now, I'm very happy with Real Techniques (so much so, that a lot of my MAC have been put out of rotation), a few Sephora and my new best friend ... the Marc Jacobs concealer brush. Also, I use the double-ended Balm eye brushes daily.

Real Techniques has never let me down when it comes to drugstore brushes... I am really enjoying my Sigma brushes (both face and eye) as well as my Wayne Goss #2 brush that I use for blush

A big shout out to anb0906!!!!! She posted this on the other site and enabled me:
"Best sigma dupe set ever...go to eBay and search Pro Cosmetics Foundation Blending Brush Blush Kabuki Makeup Tool Set Kit by seller misskingdom001. $17 shipped, brand Jessup. Crazy cheap, awesome quality! Youtubers rave about these brushes being exact dupes. They take about 3 weeks to arrive from China, but they are totally worth it! "
Well, I bought them and could not believe how nice they were when the came in the mail. Very dense and soft and great quality for the price. Going to order again as my kiddos confiscated the set. Thanks anb906!

I loooove my Real Techniques brushes!!! And I think Inglot brushes are pretty great! Very, very soft and cheaper that MAC brushes. Plus at my Inglot, if you buy 3 or more you get 20% off your entire purchase! Can't beat that!

Back when I had a discount as a beauty advisor I bought Urban Decay's powder brush, blush brush, and optical blurring brush. And I have all my eye brushes from all the palettes I have bought from them.
I like them a lot. I have had them several years and they don't shed and are easy to maintain. I have eyed other brushes including the fancier ones like hakuhodo...but I just can't justify it.

I've fallen in love with Nars contouring brushes lately! I swear they've reduced the time it takes me to do my makeup by at least 15%. The Ita brush in particular makes contouring a breeze... I possibly now own 3, possibly. Hakuhodo and Nars both make a similar smaller version of the brush.

Wayne Goss and Hakuhodo brushes feel and look exactly the same, right down to the ferrules. No question as to why WG are rumored to be made by Hakuhodo, you can see it. I'm waiting for WG to release the newest eye brushes individually. So far I have his holiday brush, 02, 2x03, 2x04, 05, 2x06. Love them! The ones I own and love from Hakuhodo are: J5523, J142, BJ142, J146, J5529, J5522. These are pretty much the only brushes I have been using on my eyes lately besides my MAC 219.

I'm currently loving my julep blush brush, seriously I was surprised by how soft it was! Sigma for my eyes I think it's e55 or f55? Either way I'm thinking of getting more sigma brushes!
